This Rare Footage Of The Elusive Tiger Shark Is Breathtaking

When going into the ocean, many people have a distinct and very present fear of sharks. And when they think about a potential shark attack, the first thing in their mind is usually a great white shark. In reality, tiger sharks are almost just as dangerous.

These distinctive sharks are marked by dark stripes on their skin, which gives them the perfectly appropriate name of “tiger shark.” They are also some of the oceans most voracious eaters, because it doesn’t matter what they find, if it fits into their mouths, it will usually end up in their stomachs.

The tiger shark is one of the ocean’s largest sharks, reaching lengths of over 18 feet (5.5 m) and weighing as much as one ton (907 kg).

Underwater photographers at Earth Touch were able to capture some of these magnificent creatures on film, just before calling it a day, in the waters of Aliwal Shoal off the coast of South Africa.

Check out the video below to see some of the amazing footage.
