Camera technology has come a long way over the past couple of decades. We went from filming home videos with shoulder mounted cameras that weighed approximately 92 tons, to having a tiny camera mounted on every single cellphone, to cameras controlled remotely.

And now, thanks to some fancy engineering, there is a camera that was made to perfectly zoom across the icy habitat of the fearsome polar bear.

Sometimes in order to perform research an elusive animals, or even creatures that live in extreme conditions, some serious creativity needs to come into play just to get a tiny glimpse into the lives of these incredible bears.

But other times, when your brand new invention finally gets out into the wild, some unexpected things happen.

What’s the saying, “you mess with the bull, you get the horns?” Well, when it comes to this research camera filming polar bears in their natural habitat, let’s just say, “you mess with the bear, you get, um, destroyed.”

Check out the footage that survived and get a close up look at these amazing creatures below!
